This privacy policy outlines how DPL Insurance Limited (“we”, “us”, “our”), collect, hold, use, and share your personal information. “Personal information” is information about you as an individual.

We take your privacy seriously and comply with all applicable privacy laws, including the Privacy Act 2020.

Information we collect

We collect personal information that you provide to us directly, including when you interact with our personnel or contact us (by email, phone, through social media or otherwise), and when you use our websites.

We generally record inbound and outbound telephone calls for operational purposes such as complaint handling and reporting, quality assurance, and staff training.

From time to time DPL may need to obtain information regarding names and addresses of registered owners, vehicle information and history from NZ Transport Agency (Waka Kotahi), to be used for the purpose of verifying ownership details of a vehicle. You have the right to notify Waka Kotahi if you do not wish to have your names and address made available under an authorisation. DPL holds an Authorisation from Waka Kotahi under section 241(1) of the Land Transport Act 1998.

Sometimes, we may collect your personal information from sources other than you. These include publicly available sources (such as the New Zealand Motor Vehicle Register) and, where we have your consent, other third parties such as Intermediaries, medical professionals or other companies in our group.

The types of personal information we collect from you will depend on the nature of our interactions with you and the circumstances in which your personal information is collected. The personal information we collect from you may include:

  • your name, email address, and other contact details;
  • billing and payment information;
  • identification details including driver’s licence/passport information;
  • personal information including date of birth, gender, residency;
  • family/beneficiary information;
  • lifestyle/medical information;
  • motor vehicle details.

If you choose not to provide us with any personal information that we ask for, we may not be able to respond to your requests or answer your enquiries, or provide you with our products and services.

Web measurement tools and cookies

We use web measurement tools, including cookies, to give us insights into how you are using our websites. This information is anonymised but we do identify your browser. We use this information to improve your user experience when you are using or browsing our websites and for security.

  • government agencies and regulators, or anyone else, if we are required to share that information for the purposes of complying with applicable law and regulations.

Security

We ensure the personal information we hold about you is protected against misuse and unauthorised access, disclosure or alteration by reasonable security safeguards.

However, when you use our websites, there may be links to other third-party internet sites. Please be aware that your use of such third-party sites will not be subject to the terms of this Privacy Policy.

Your rights

You can ask for us access to, and request correction of, the personal information we hold about you by contacting us at privacy@dplinsurance.co.nz. We will respond to your request in accordance with the requirements and processes set out in the Privacy Act 2020.

We may change this Privacy Policy at any time and if we do, we will post the updated policy on our website.
